IIT-JEE 2013 Proposed Admission Policy-

Namste,

I am K.Singh, Director of Vision Classes, Patna. I have started blogging from today to extend my support and suggestion to parents and students of Vision Classes and also aspiring IITian. My lauching blog is about the proposed policy for 2013 IIT-JEE admissions.
* The changes in proposed IIT exam- 70% weightage will be given to +2 Marks and remaing 30% will be computed by conducting Aptitude Test. If the proposed policy is implemented to enhance the quality of IITs then of course, it is WELCOME, but if the policy is aimed to destroy the Coaching Industry then it needs to be condemned. Becuase, there is rarely any competitive exam. in India for which Coaching facility is not available. There are numerous Coaching Institutes for the most sought after UPSC exam. In India, when a child is ready for his school, right then parents start thinking of suplementing the kid with tuition. Why this is so prevalent in India is a topic of debate. Our student life has limited time span and in the era of tough competition, everyone wants to succeed in his/her desired goal at the earliest and that is where coaching industry plays an important role.
*Today, there are lakhs of people employed in the coaching world and many lakhs families are dependent on this industry for their bread 'n' butter. The proposed policy will dislocate lakhs of people. Does this policy has any re-location plan for these unemployed people?
*According to the proposed policy, 70% weightage will be given to +2 Marks then the existing coaching institutes would start coaching the students to secure better 'n' better marks in their higher secondary board examinations. In addtion to that students will be coached for remaining 30% Aptitude test. Hence, literally the coaching institutes will come as substitute higher secondary schools, then yet another policy needs to be formulated to close down these schools. Baseless policies can not sustain for long. The very existence of coaching industry is an outcome of lack of basic infrastructure in schools & colleges. The poroposed policy will deprive and prevent enterance of students in IIT coming from rural background. This policy will lead to corruption. In last 10 years IITs have changed the pattern 3-4 times, which does not exist in developed countries and moreover what was achieved from changing policies so often. It is a question mark in itself. What is the gurantee that the changes proposed in the new policy will be successful?

  6. your comment on change in pattern of IIT entry is good. But, I am father of a child in rural area. How I am supposed to get entry into this IIT choaching classes...it is not possible. So, I have to go for postal course which will be inferior to live classes. New rules will atleast gives some hope to my child that getting good marks in 12th gives him fair chance. So I support this new rule. Choaching for 12th portion is more or less same for metros and for rural area..provided your teachers are good. But for IIT choaching ...it is specialies job.

  7. I am no student of your institute. But I agree to your view about the politics going on in the education field. The ministers have taken us students for granted and I know not sir if he considers us Guinea pigs to be experimented upon. But at the same time its good for those hailing from rural areas. Sibal the so coined "DEATH EATER" by the students, should put his brains into some sensible work rather than making us miserable.

  8. The new system will put additional stress on students.
    1. The students will have to excel in both the board exams and the aptitude-cum-advanced knowledge test. This will break the backs of students who are already burdened.
    2. Coaching classes will proliferate even more. Already coaching classes are opening for aptitude tests and the schools are tying up with coaching classes for “extra coaching in all subjects for those wanting to go to IIT”. The HRD ministry knows this but prefers to ignore it.
    3. Comparing the way a student studies for the JEE and for the board exam one will find it it’s the board exam which calls for rote learning. One will find sheer ‘mugging” can get one through board exams whereas for JEE one has to use the fundamentals they have learnt to solve new problems. (see Wikipedia for IITJEE even Even WIKI has said the same)
    4. Besides now they want to put all the eggs in one basket and stress out the students further. Usually if a child misses JEE due to sickness or any other reason the child has the option to write the AIEEE. If there is only one exam and they miss it they will end up wasting a year.
    5. There is great difference in the marking system as well as syllabus, question paper and correction across different boards. Also as there is manual correction the same answer could be given different marks by different evaluators.

The main question is why? Why is Kapil Sibil concentrating so much on an entrance exam spending so much time and money and effort on it when they should be concentrating (using this time and money) on the basics? More than half the population of our country has no access to education. There are not enough, schools and colleges in the country, the quality of teachers is falling dangerously every year, and quality of education in general is at an abysmal level at the primary school stage. Are all these people not “human resource”?
The next most important question that needs to be asked is why this haste? Why 2013? Why implement an untried and untested system in such a hurry?
The answers seem obvious. The reasons are as follows.
    1. Evidently the HRD minister feels is gaining a lot by focusing on the entrance exam issue rather than on improving the general quality of education especially primary education.
    2. The change needs to be done quickly before the general elections.

    3. If these changes are implemented, the system can be easily opened up for corruption.

Basically the JEE was foolproof all these years. No amount of money or influence could get people in.

There is only one reason for this change and that is corruption. If we do not fight back, if we accept this silently then any number of Anna Hazare's or even Gods cannot help us.
